To our Mica
In the rising of the sun and in it’s going down, We will Remember.
When we wake up in the night to your soft growl for a midnight walk. We will remember.
In the morning, we wake up to your wagging tail and slipper in your mouth, we will remember.
Each time we arrive at home and are greeted with a happy face and a shoe in your mouth, we will remember.
In the blowing of the wind and the chill of winter, we will remember.
As we sit on the back deck to be asked with your eyes to sit with me on our lounge chair, we will remember.
When you danced and rough housed with us in your playful way, we will remember.
When I lay down to watch the night draw to a close, I’m accompanied with a furry love by my side, head on my chest that brought such contentment, I will remember.
As the school bus draws close to home, and I look out the window to find my sweet Mica waiting anxiously to welcome me home, I will remember.
Everyday the meal time routine is met with a “sit” and a quiet speakeasy that whispers, “please” can I eat. We will remember.
For each Squirrel that you chased away on the backyard fence protecting us, we will remember your eyes so focused, full of love.
To our special vacuum that scavenged for food giblets on the kitchen floor, we will remember.
Our wondrous hiking companion that forged ahead of us while scouring the countryside for mule deer hoping to chase, we will remember.
My coffee companion who angled for a treat and made friends with everyone you met, we will miss your friendly, beautiful way.
Walking the soccer fields while you kept an eye out for the geese, we will remember.
You, Mica, my friend, my companion, my protector, how could we ever forget you.
We love you more than you could ever know.
May we find the strength to mourn you with dignity.
May we find the strength to mourn in peace.
May we find the strength to mourn without shame or embarrassment.
May we find the strength to mourn out loud and cry until my crying is done.
May we find the strength to mourn with patience and be tolerant to move through this at our own pace.
May we find the strength to accept that we are in mourning and be at peace with that while our heart mends.
May ours be a good mourning, one that cleanses our hearts and renews our inner being. May our memories of our beloved Mica comfort us so that we may be ready to love again.
